Arkansas does not license public adjusters
Arkansas does not license public adjusters. State law defines adjusters solely as those acting on behalf of insurers, and no person may adjust claims without licensure under that framework (Ark. Code Ann. §23-64-202). The Arkansas Insurance Department views public adjusting as prohibited.

Without state licensing, there is no regulator-maintained roster, no statutory fee cap, and no state-supervised complaint process for public adjusting services.
Warning
Post-storm "claims consultants" offering to negotiate your insurance claim for a fee may be operating unlawfully in Arkansas. If someone solicits you to handle your claim, report them to the Arkansas Insurance Department.
What you can do instead
- 1. Contact your state's insurance department — it's free.
The Arkansas Insurance Department mediates insurance complaints and can demand a carrier response at no cost to you. This is available in every state regardless of public adjuster licensing.
- 2. Consult a policyholder-side insurance attorney.
An attorney who handles first-party property insurance disputes can review your claim, negotiate with the carrier, and litigate if needed. Ask about fee structures — some work on contingency, others bill hourly. The Arkansas Bar Association lawyer referral service can help you find one.
- 3. Check your policy's appraisal clause.
Many property insurance policies contain an appraisal provision for disputes about the amount of a loss. Each side selects an appraiser, and a neutral umpire breaks ties. Check your policy's "Loss Settlement" or "Appraisal" section — the right may already be there.
- 4. Document everything from day one.
Photograph all damage before any repairs beyond emergency mitigation. Keep every receipt, every email, every adjuster's card. This documentation is your leverage regardless of who helps with your claim. Our claim letter templates and claim-type guides are free tools built for exactly this.
- 5. Use the tools that apply everywhere.
